King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is delivering a major digital transformation of its estates and facilities operations, replacing disparate legacy systems with MRI Software’s fully connected, multi‑thread technology ecosystem. Previously, the Trust relied on a fragmented mix of CAFM, space utilisation and risk‑assessment tools, leading to inefficiencies and limited visibility. MRI was selected to provide a single source of truth, an open, integrated platform that unifies data, streamlines workflows and strengthens long-term decision‑making.

As Mark Wilkins, Associate Director of Estates at the Trust, explains:
“Outdated systems were holding back our estates and facilities management. We wanted a single, modern platform that is open and connected and can be integrated with the other technology solutions we use to enable us to have better visibility and control that will set us up for long-term success.”

The phased implementation began with MRI’s facilities and space management solutions, consolidating the helpdesk, synchronising CAFM and space data, and delivering more accurate reporting, replacing tools that previously caused user dissatisfaction and operational blind spots.

Building on this connected foundation, the Trust introduced MRI’s lease management and AI-driven contract intelligence, automating IFRS 16 compliance, reducing external legal spend and cutting audit preparation time by over 100 hours annually.

Next, the Trust plans to deploy MRI’s AI reporting and energy management tools to support sustainability goals and Integrated Care Board alignment. More than a system upgrade, this transformation is creating a fully connected digital estate, delivering operational efficiency, long-term cost savings and the strategic agility today’s NHS requires.
