The inspection visits took place on August 24 & 25, and October 5 & 6, 2021.

The CQC carried out a short-notice, announced inspection of urgent and emergency as well as medicine at the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Two focused inspection were also carried at County Hospital: on medicine and surgery, both focusing on the safe, effective and well-led key questions. 

Following the inspection a Warning Notice was issued under Section 29A of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 to notify the Trust that the quality of care provided in relation to medical staffing in urgent and emergency care at the Royal Stoke University Hospital, and the risk management of patients with mental health needs medicine at County Hospital, required significant improvement.
