Mystery surrounding death of pensioner in Redhill’s East Surrey Hospital car park

An elderly man who died after he was found collapsed in a hospital car park in Redhill could have been hit by a vehicle, Surrey Police have said,  although he may have been struck down by an illness unrelated to his earlier discharge from the hospital.

A spokesman for Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust which runs East Surrey Hospital said: “We can confirm that a man in his 70s collapsed and died near the entrance to the golf club (Redhill Golf Centre) car park on the East Surrey Hospital site following a routine out-patient imaging appointment.”

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police said: "An investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death and to ascertain whether the man was struck by a vehicle prior to his death."
