Five new hospitals for Iraq

The Iraqi Government has announced it will build five new 200- to 400-bed hospitals in cities around the country at a total cost of 200 billion Iraqi dinars ($172 million), reports the website Al-Shorfa.com.

"The hospitals are located in Diyala, Anbar, Baghdad, Babil and al-Muthanna, and include various surgery, maternity, heart and cancer sections," Iraqi Government Economic Advisor Salam al-Quraishi told Al-Shorfa.

The government has formed a committee from the Health and Finance Ministries to oversee the construction of these hospitals, he said, adding that the new facilities are expected to be completed within two years, and will provide a number of free-of-charge health services to Iraqi citizens.
