Department of Health revamps HTM 55

The Department of Health, HSE and Industry have revamped HTM 55 now labeled Health Building Note (HBN) 00-10 Part D: Windows and associated hardware.

The new directive of the HBN 00-10 has been created in order to help assist the Estates and Facilities, Health and Safety/Accident Prevention and Security and Procurement departments to clarify the overall requirements and respond to the previous EFA/2013/003 alert.
It is intended to provide experienced and qualified guidance on the subject of assessment, documentation, selection and installation of suitable window restrictors.

Regarding recent fall incidences and the ramifications of such on NHS property, the HBN plans to help prevent future incidents by advising estates and facilities managers, accident prevention teams or equipment suppliers who may be involved in its adoption.

David Warr from Mighton Products Ltd has been assisting HSE and DH with the project. In an attempt to help clarify the new directive, David is planning to attend a number of HefmA regional meetings. During the sessions he will present documented case histories and photos and welcome questions from attendees.

He is also undertaking a series of site surveys and providing technical information about the HBN.

If you have any questions or are interested in taking part in a survey, contact David at david@mighton.co.uk
